The Birmingham Institute of Creative Arts is a vibrant and diverse learning community at the heart of Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Art, Design & Media where we currently have an exciting opportunity for a full time Lecturer in BA Digital Marketing and MA Future Media. We’re looking for industry professionals with teaching experience and creative and strategic communications credentials in marketing communications to join our dynamic team in the School of Visual Communication.
You will be a key player in a busy teaching team that currently holds the highest rating for student teaching satisfaction in the institute. You’ll be teaching undergraduates and postgraduates in alignment to curricula, your colleagues teaching practice, peer review and the students’ needs. We want you to teach your specialism and enrich that further with new knowledge and research to keep abreast of emerging trends, disruptions and opportunities in the digital marketing and communications arena. You will lead on your modules, slotting into a rich mix that is practice-led, theory-applied and employability driven.
Your responsibilities begin with the University’s ‘I AM BCU VALUES’ amongst colleagues and in response to students’ needs.
Key Duties:
- Designing and aligning your teaching and learning content and delivery to course specifications, University standards and regulations.
- Active research into new and emerging trends and technologies to inform your teaching, learning and collaborative practice with peers e.g., live client briefs for student assignments.
- Building meaningful industry partnerships to foster enterprise and collaboration with potential student mentors and graduate employers.
- Act as a personal tutor providing mentorship, support, and pastoral advice to students.
- Taking ownership of your modules as a Module Leader and Course Leadership responsibilities as a ‘Level Coordinator’ in managing the day-to-day running of a student year group.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Evidence of knowledge transfer or teaching.
- Prepared to work towards teaching qualification.
- Willingness to engage in research activity.
- Ability to demonstrate core knowledge and expertise gained from practice.
- Marketing Communications experience, (agency or client).
- Proficiency in contemporary market research methods and models.
- Experience in marketing related media planning, activation, and measurement.
- Creative content design and production skills.
- Brand development and management experience.
- Network of industry contacts.
- Team player and self-starter.
- In-person presentation and communication skills e.g., pitching for business.
- Professional credentials e.g., industry publications/blogs.
- Understand equal opportunity issues as they may impact on academic content and issues relating to student need.
Desirable Requirements:
- Master’s degree.
- Professional qualification e.g., membership of professional association and/or recognised peer reviewed awards.
- Experience of teaching, curriculum development and quality management and enhancement in an HE environment.
