The Department for Secondary and Post-Compulsory Education/Adult Education has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Maths specialist/ Teacher trainer, to join our team as a Senior Lecturer. We have developed a shared vision for educational excellence with our partner schools and our courses reflect our commitment to partnership working and training the next generation of secondary teachers. 

As a Senior Lecturer, you will need to be highly motivated, well organised and passionate about delivering exceptional evidence based teaching. You will have relevant subject knowledge in the teaching of Secondary Maths evidenced through qualifications and prior teaching experience covering the Secondary Curriculum. A background in Maths ITE or mentoring trainees on a PGCE Secondary course would be desirable. You will have real energy and passion for your subject and its associated pedagogy, which will be demonstrated through your developing research interests and your network connections. You will develop and apply inspiring teaching techniques and content which foster enthusiasm, understanding and critical enquiry amongst postgraduate trainee teachers

The role includes:

Teaching on Secondary / Teach First Secondary Maths ITT courses

Planning and the delivery of in-class and on-line teaching and learning sessions 

Supporting trainees pastorally on a Teach First Secondary Maths programme 

Travel to school placements 

Working closely with colleagues in partner schools to establish and maintain links

Applying strong theory to practice connections. 

Providing pastoral support and enable students to thrive and become independent professionals who are proud to be part of Birmingham City University is essential to your role. 

Applicants must hold a first degree in Maths and have QTS. Experience of teaching Maths in a Secondary school, 6th form or FE College is essential. Prior experience of working in Initial Teacher Training or mentoring trainees on a PGCE course is highly desirable. A higher degree would be desirable to fulfil the requirements of this post.

In the School of Education we train more teachers than any other university in the West Midlands and enjoy strong partnerships with over 1,000 schools, colleges and training organisations across the region. We are the West Midlands training provider for the charity Teach First, which provides future leaders for schools in low income communities.
