The School of Education and Social Work is one of the largest providers of teacher education in the country and has a long-standing reputation for producing outstanding teachers. We have the following vacancy: 

  • Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Secondary Mathematics Education

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced subject specialist to work as part of the team delivering on Initial Teacher Training programmes.  Areas of activity may include PGCE Secondary (mainstream and School Direct), Teach First programmes across the West and East Midlands, pre-service Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses in Mathematics, in-service Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses in Mathematics in partnership with Teaching School Alliances and Assessment Only routes to QTS.  All tutors are expected, as appropriate, to contribute to Professional Studies programmes within ITT, to work across age phases and to undertake supervision of students on professional practice.  In addition, there are opportunities to contribute to a range of Undergraduate degrees, Masters programmes and Research and Enterprise.

The successful candidate will have a successful track record in secondary schools as a Mathematics specialist.  In addition, experience of working with trainee teachers – in a Higher Education/SCITT setting and/or working as a mentor with trainee teachers in schools would be an advantage, as would experience of developing and delivering professional development within School, Local Authority and/or Higher Education settings.  A first degree is required.  QTS is essential and a higher degree preferred.
